What is your web presence?

Your web presence is any information that people can find out about you by trailing through the internet. This can range from your website coming first in googles search results through to people monitoring what you buy and sell through ebay or, if you've done anything to upset any one you could potentially have negative publicity ranking higher than your own website.

So their are two parts to our web presence. The first part that we can control is the image we want to portray to the rest of the world. Just remember that a good snooper can often find things that you hadn't even thought about. The second part is out of our control and is made up of all the comments that other people have left about us over the vast expanse of the world wide web.

How can you improve your web presence?

The first thing to do is make sure that you are not getting any negative publicity from anyone. The only advise we can give for this is do what you do and do it well. Secondly try not to upset anyone.

If you provide a better service you may start to see positive publicity generated about you which is worth it weight in gold as far as free visits to your site and increased sales are concerned.

Finally the part that control can often be utilized to a far greater effect than most people think. This part of your web presence is not just your website. Their are a number of on-line marketing companies such as Google adwords, MIVA and MSN that will quite happily take money off you to send visitors to your site. Their are also third party merchant sites such as Google base, Amazon, e-directory and ebay to name a few who will sell your products for you normally for a commission and an annual fee. Then their are the social networking activities you can carry out such as blogging or setting up myspace pages.

Finally theirs your own website to deal with. You must make sure that your website is optimised to its fullest ability. Their will be many people competing with you on the web and you need to give your self the best chance of people finding your site. SEO is not a black art as many people believe but their are also no guarantees, However if you follow the rules their is no reason why most sites cant archive a first page ranking for a few chosen keywords.
